Ghana Police Service Ineffective To Fight Illegal Sand Winning Activities – Keta MCE

The Municipal Chief Executive Officer of Keta in the Volta Region of Ghana, Hon. Emmanuel Gemegah condemned in no uncertain terms, the ongoing illegal sand winning activities along the coastal areas of Keta and its environs.

Hon. Gemegah was responding to allegations of an ongoing illegal sand winning activities of certain unscrupulous elements of the society during the “Duamenefa” Social Intervention Program of Fafaa 100.3 FM.

According to the MCE, it took the intervention of the regional security task force to arrest two vehicles engaged in these activities. He described the Keta Police division as ineffective to combat the illegality, hence he had to call on the Regional Minister for support to arrest two of the trucks, while others are busily engaged in the activity.

When asked, why would you keep an ineffective police force to the detriment of your municipality? He responded by saying “a tale told by the hunter cannot say it all”.

When Fafaa 100.3 FM interviewed some indigenous people of the society whose lives were prone to sea surge devastation for decades, partly due to illegal sand winning activities, they claimed they are helpless.

According to the allegations of the indigene, some of the trucks being used to commit the act of environmental degradation are owned by police officers, assembly men, and certain chiefs and opinion leaders also benefit from the illegal activities.

The “Duamenefa” Social Intervention Program of Fafaa FM Dzodze, through its Executive President and CEO of Fafaa 100.3 FM, Mr. Emmanuel Ketaman Evortepe, pledges to use its undercover team of journalists and volunteers to support the efforts of the Municipal Assembly to uncover the perpetrators of this heinous crime against humanity.
