Sokode SecTEC Clash: 19 students, two residents, and journalist, suffer injuries 

A total of 19 students, two residents, and a journalist became the casualties of the Sunday, February 23, 2025, clashes between some students and residents of Sokode-Gborgame, in the Ho Municipality. 

They recorded various degrees of injuries, with most treated and discharged. 

The journalist, Evans Akangla works with Swiss FM, in Ho. 

Mr James Gunu,Volta Regional Minister and Chairman of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) disclosed these to journalists. 

He indicated that investigations have been opened to understand what led to the clashes and to seek remedies against future recurrence.

Mr Gunu, on Sunday instructed for the temporary closure of Sokode Secondary Technical Senior High School near Ho, where the misunderstanding between some students and some citizens of the area, stemmed from and escalated into riotous attacks on each other.  

The situation led to the swift military cum Police deployment to minimise violent clashes, injuries and loss of life.

Meanwhile, traditional authorities of the area have called for expedited investigations into the violent clashes. 

They pledged to cooperate with the team of investigators while condemning the violent act, which they described as “unnecessary.” 

The Ghana News Agency’s interactions with eyewitnesses indicated that an alleged fracas emanated from a group of students known as a ‘smoking gang’ within the school, who become angry at their seniors for unleashing punishment on them, obviously for breaking the school rules.

The gang members, who became peeved for the punishment, reached out to their external members for revenge, which resulted in the confrontation at a food joint outside the school, with recorded injuries on both sides. 

Meanwhile, the school is under heavy security protection, while students are back home with their parents.
